Endless excuses
Having our reasons
Yet – so unreasonable!
Too often motives
Are purely emotive
Lashing-out at shadows!
We cast ourselves
Yet – drawing blood and gore
From poor victims’ maws
Neath the pall – our appal!
Yet, just raise the lantern
And all sanity’s restored.

They thrived in hell
That once was earth
Gloating and wallowing
In unseemly success
Lauding themselves
On lives well done!
Hellfire has baked its best
Smell karma’s aroma
Flavour – or is it favour?
In pride they claimed
And who is to doubt!
All that they deserve
Flies to their manure
And rats to their sewer!
Cheung-Ling Wong
Plumes of dust obscuring
Torrents of emotions immuring
Stinging eyes into tears
For all is beyond the seers
Yet, when it’s settled and clear
And the dusty veil lifted
Behold – rubble and ruins!
Yet, soaring above the fear
A magnificent edifice loomed
For a brand-new life had bloomed!

Gaze into my deepest dark eyes
How far can you see?
With your observatory lens
Distant galaxies are discovered
They’ve even mapped the universe
But I still remain a mystery
Yet, I’m not that far off or at bay
A lot closer than you think
Just touch me with your heart
And all cold distances collapse.

We’ve domesticated the sleepy cow
The fluffy cat and the eager dog
Even the goldfish with all its hues
We’ve domesticated the blowsy rose
The golden grains of wheat and rice
We’ve tamed the cabbage and the carrot
And all that’s fruitful and green
Abut alas, we’re yet to tame the brute
Within our sacrosanct abodes
There’s nothing domestic in violence
So it’s best kept far from our homes.

I was wronged, but was not wrong
Yet, still they tried to correct me!
For I was their greatest mistake
They swept me under a rug – shame!
But couldn’t hide the obvious bump
They shut me up and dressed me down
But it only made it worse!
I was wronged, but was not wrong
Yet, they still tried to correct me!
Endless therapies, endless counselling
Tranquilizers, hypnosis and stern advice
Which, was clearly meant for them.

Over surfaces – appearances judged
Thinking we’ve completely worked it all out
Any deeper – it all needs to be loved
So much more than merely skimming about
Deeper than the abyss of oceans delved
Not ever close are the bowels of the earth
Nor the fathomless cosmos so beheld
Mere shallow puddles piddling their dearth
That trawls as abyssal as love had trawled
Through dark mystery’s endless inertia
In silence – so coveting all that’s hauled
A deeper knowing of the minutia
Every screw and cog that Fate had reasoned
Beyond our logic of minds well seasoned.

Changing the world
By changing the mind
For a whole new deal
Like, changing the sheets
Or a fresh new shirt
For a whole new feel
Was told I’m out of touch
But it’s a whole new grasp
A whole new unreal!
Cheung-Ling Wong
I grew more vivid
As the daylight faded
Like the ruby dahlia
And the amethyst sage
As the hot pink oleander
The tangerine lilies
Or the golden daisies
And the royal blue gentian
The glowing embers
Of the garden at dusk
My undying flame
As I head towards
My fearful night.

You have the right, all the rights
But it doesn’t make you right
Being correct is not a privilege
Unlike life’s many disparities
Of wealth, advantage and power
To indulge in their licence afforded
Of being utterly stupid and wrong!
